ClickView’s default settings ensure that students can only access videos appropriate for their year level. However, in some cases, educators may need to bypass these restrictions and grant specific students access to certain videos. This article explains how video restrictions work and how to adjust privacy settings when sharing a video.
Understanding Video Restrictions and Access
Before modifying privacy settings, it’s important to understand how ClickView’s restrictions function:
1. Rating-Based Restrictions
- Students can only access videos that are within their year level’s maximum rating allowance.
- If a video exceeds the allowed rating, it will not appear in search results or be visible while browsing ClickView.
2. Manage Video Access Overrides Ratings
- The Manage Video Access feature allows educators to manually restrict access to specific videos.
- Even if a video is within a student’s maximum rating allowance, it will still be blocked if restricted through this feature.
3. Link Sharing Can Override Restrictions
- Sharing a video via a direct link can override both rating-based restrictions and Manage Video Access settings.
- Depending on the selected privacy setting, shared videos may become accessible to students who normally wouldn’t be able to view them.
Adjusting Privacy Settings When Sharing a Video
When sharing a video in ClickView, educators can choose from different privacy settings that control who can access the content.
A. Respect Ratings & Restrictions (Default Setting)
By default, when a video is shared, the privacy setting is set to "Respect Ratings & Restrictions."
- The video’s rating and Manage Video Access restrictions will remain enforced.
- Only students who meet the maximum allowed rating for their year level can watch the video.
- Students restricted via Manage Video Access will still be unable to access it.
This option ensures that shared videos continue to follow the school’s content policies.
B. Bypass Ratings: My School
If the privacy setting is changed to "My School," the following occurs:
- The shared video becomes accessible to anyone logged into ClickView with a school account.
- Ratings and restrictions that were set are bypassed.
- Even students who normally wouldn’t have access will be able to watch the video.
This setting is useful when sharing educational content that should be accessible to all students. However, educators should use this option cautiously to ensure that all shared videos are appropriate for a broader audience.
